Active ingredients in sunscreens come in two forms, mineral and chemical filters. The most common sunscreens on the market contain chemical filters. These products typically include active ingredients such as avobenzone, oxybenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate.
Oxybenzone can cause allergic skin reactions and may disrupt hormones (Rodriguez 2006, Krause 2012). Yet, oxybenzone is very common ingredient in sunscreens. People who reported using sunscreen have higher oxybenzone exposures based on a paper published recently (Zamoiski 2015).
Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. Zinc oxide is considered safe for babies over 6months old based on in depth safety studies in human. However mineral based sunscreens tend to be whitening, and leave skin ghost like. They also feel greasy and non-breathable on skin. Therefore, many people don’t feel comfortable using it unless absolutely necessary.
We have done extensive work to perfect our non-nano ZnO based natural UV shield moisturizer. It gives you broadspectrum UV protection and leaves no whitening or greasy feel. It does not clot pores and is hypoallergenic. It can be used on top of a day cream or by itself. Organic calendula and natural vitamins further nourish skin and prevent brown spots, large pores or wrinkle formation.
